Police in Hythe are appealing for witnesses after a nine-year-old boy was assaulted by a youth as he walked home from school.
The incident occurred in North Road, Dibden Purlieu at approximately 4pm on Friday, January 26.
The schoolboy was walking along the pavement in North Road. As he tried to pass a group of youths blocking the pavement, one of them slapped him about the face causing reddening to his right cheek.
The youth is described as:
- White
- Aged 15-16 years
- 5ft 4ins to 6ft tall
- Medium build
- Fairly long blond hair
- He was wearing a red top with long white sleeves built into the top and black tracksuit trousers.
- He was in a group of about six-seven youths
Anyone who was in North Road at the time of the incident and saw these youths or witnessed the assault are asked to contact the police.
PC Jason Andrews at Hythe police station said: “This appears to be a completely unprovoked assault on a young boy who was simply minding his own business while making his way home from school. We would like to hear from any members of this group of youths, or anyone else who may have information relating to this incident”.
