Young people in the New Forest who want to shape up in the
new year can make a start by texting New Forest District Council.
To celebrate the launch of a new children's gym at Applemore Health and Leisure,
the council is running an exciting text competition for a chance to win one of
three exclusive memberships to the facility, which opens next week.
816 GYM allows children to get in shape on a range of exercise equipment that
is traditionally found in adult fitness suites.
To enter the competition children are being asked to send in their name, age
and address by text, email or post by December 22. Everyone who enters will be
put into a free prize draw and have the chance to receive messages about the
centre's latest events, special offers and holiday schedules.
816 GYM is the first facility of its kind in the south. The mini treadmills,
steppers and bikes have all been designed to be fun, safe and easy to use. Other
equipment to encourage young people to take up regular exercise includes free
weights, stability balls and punch bags.
Instructors are all qualified to work with young people, who will be able to
access the gym during evenings, weekends and school holidays. The competition
has been set up to encourage local children to join the new facility and take
part in regular exercise.
Cllr Barry Rickman, portfolio holder for leisure at NFDC, said: "This is
an interactive and fun way of letting young people know that this latest facility
is up and running. By texting us young people not only have the chance to win,
but they can find out about all the latest activities at Applemore Health and
Leisure. I am pleased we are one of the first councils in the country to offer
a fitness suite that has been designed specifically for youngsters."
Young people can enter the competition by texting 816 and their name, age and
address to 07736 101010.
They can also enter by emailing text@nfdc.gov.uk or
by post to:
