One of the community's most worthwhile services is in desperate need of new volunteers. Community Responders is a scheme managed by South Central (Hampshire) Ambulance Service to enable skilled and equipped people to respond to medical emergencies in their local area.
Community Responders are volunteers who give their time freely to help save lives in their community. They are trained by South Central (Hampshire) Ambulance in basic life support, the use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's) and the treatment and control of a wide range of potentially life threatening conditions.
They are dispatched by the Ambulance Communications Centre to emergency incidents in their community. They operate within small areas and so can often be at the patient's side in less than five minutes, providing both vital medical care and reassurance. In many cases, their intervention can literally mean the difference between life and death.
They are able to support people in the first few minutes following a heart attack or other life threatening event Cover is provided on a rota basis for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and each local group is responsible for its own fundraising, so volunteers and sponsors are always needed.
The Waterside branch in particular is in dire need of more people to train to become Community Responders.
Anyone who might be able to help with fundraising or to become Community Responders are invited to contact Daniel Reeve on 07764 749238 or email watersidecommunityresponders@yahoo.co.uk |
